Benefit Screening of “Bully,” June 14th
The ashland independent film festival is pleased to present two special screenings of the critically acclaimed documentary film Bully on Thursday, June 14th at 6:15pm and 9:00pm at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland. Tickets are on sale now at the Varsity Box Office and are discounted for AIFF members.
Following each screening will be a Q&A with a panel of experts actively working in our region to address bullying in our schools:
Paul Coughlin is the founder of The Protectors and the best-selling author of eight books, including the freedom-from-bullying parent and teacher resource, Raising Bullyproof Kids. His anti-bullying curriculum is used throughout North America as well as in South Africa, Uganda, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil among other countries. Download The Protectors’ product brochure.
Sugar Mejia is the Schools Program/Marketing Manager with Mediation Works, whose ChoicePoint Bullying Prevention and Bystander Awareness Program focuses on empowering the “bystanders” to become “allies” and step up to help when aggressive behavior is taking place. ChoicePoint is an interactive workshop (not an assembly-style presentation) where students are given the opportunity to be heard and brainstorm strategies when faced with bullying and aggression.
Stephanie Hayes teaches Health at Talent Middle School. She has served the Phoenix –Talent School District for the past 15 years, developing curriculum including bullying prevention and awareness campaigns. A graduate from Southern Oregon University, she currently teaches the most comprehensive year-long health curriculum in the Rogue Valley, focusing on important and relevant topics for students. Stephanie also advises the TMS Lifers Club: a drug-, alcohol-, and tobacco-free lifestyle that offers a monthly extracurricular event for students who take this pledge.
Ticket sales from these two screenings will benefit the non-profit ashland independent film festival. The film will continue at the Varsity Theatre for an additional week — check the Varsity Theatre website for additional showtimes.
