AIFF2018 Screener’s Choice: Selected by AIFF’s amazing volunteer screeners
If a crime is committed in order to prevent a greater crime, is it forgivable? Is it, in fact, necessary? The Reluctant Radical follows environmental activist Ken Ward as he confronts his fears and takes direct action against the fossil fuel industry to combat climate change. Ken’s journey to radical activism is interspersed with news footage and courtroom scenes surrounding his many protests. The film reveals the fulfillment he finds in his moral calling, even though it means breaking the law. But it comes at a great personal cost—close relationships and even his mental health are at risk. We are left to wonder: is he the one out of touch with reality? Or is the rest of society delusional for not acting when faced with the unsettling evidence that we are collectively destroying the world?
Stay in your seats!
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s subject Ken Ward.
